ALL BLACK EVERYTHING
Black Greek Organizations were made to bring together black collegiate students, not seperate them.
I challenge NPHC president Greg Fontus and the rest of his executive board to have an "ALL BLACK EVERYTHING" day. On this day every member wears all black dress clothes in a movement of unity to show the campus that we are, in fact, a community of young black scholars that joined our organizations for the purpose of the betterment of our community. The NPHC will also pass out tangible examples within the past two years of our contributions to society as a TEAM.
People outside NPHC fail to see how much we do work together to help our community. This is your chance to see the other side of the NPHC. It's a shame how much social media can warp the perceptions and negate years of hard work in just a few Facebook/Twitter updates. It's not all beef.
Again, I apologize on behalf of my chapter as well for all of the chapters in the USF National Pan-Hellenic Council for our misconduct and failure to uphold the aims of our esteemed organizations; but please understand that we are young men and women that are also still working to better ourselves.
I just hate to hear that my LB, Greg Fontus and his executive board are not going a GREAT job this year. That is SO FAR away from the truth. I'm just over the negative NPHC stuff, squash it.

"Wake Up!!" Block Party
The Black Student Union and Iota Phi Theta present to you "WAKE UP!!" Block Party!! Come out and play games, enjoy music and performances from student organizations and dance troupes, win prizes, sign up for community service, register to vote, and just have plain fun right before our home football game against Charleston Southern. This event will be held on Saturday September 19th from 12pm-5pm at The Marshall Center Amphitheatre (outside the Marshall center). There will be free food and GREAT food being sold by vendors featured in the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival so please support our Black businesses. (*bring money). Please attend our GENERAL BODY meeting tomorrow at 5pm in MSC 3711 where we will be having an open discussion on the issues that we face as Black students and what ways we can become more involved in order to aid our communities.
**We will be collecting school supplies and canned goods throughout this week and at the event. Donations will go to YEA!, Grant Park community center, and Second Harvest.

Top Ten Tips for Incoming Freshmen!
1. Go to a football game – USF Football is probably the biggest thing happening at the school.
2. Get to know your professors – The more you communicate with your professor, the better chance you have of them helping you out if your ever in need.
4. Make sure you attend a University Lecture Series – ULS is one of the biggest perks about coming to a big university. Take advantage of a number of different famous actors, musicians, poets, and politicians who come talk us for free.
5. Study – This one sounds obvious but can be something new for a lot of incoming freshmen who breezed their way through high school never really having to put in those extra hours.
6. Remember your family - Although going off to college may be a fun and exciting time, don’t forget to keep that strong relationship with your loved ones back home. Still try to talk to them as much as possible.
7. Exercise – Avoid that freshman 15 by spending some time in the REC Center. If you don’t have time for that, simply walking to all of your class can make a big difference.
8. Get Involved – The best way to connect with the USF cam pus is by getting involved. With over 500 student clubs and organizations, there’s definitely one out there for you.
9. Be careful – Its no secret that throughout your time in college you will take part in some pretty wild parties. Just be careful in doing so, by always traveling with at least one friend and partying in moderation.
10. Have fun – Your college years are going to be some of the best years of your life. Make sure you enjoy each day to the fullest.

Um…first off, it sucks for Miami rapper Brisco to get robbed and pistolwhipped in the barbershop and have his Range Rover stolen….but on another note: who knew the Dade County cops were the inspiration for Reno 911? Listen to the cop’s description of the crime at the 1:38 mark!

Student Hit With $675,000 Fine in RIAA File-Sharing Case

has lost his trial against the RIAA and was ordered to pay $22,500 for each of the 30 songs he shared via Kazaa. Tenenbaum, who pleaded guilty to downloading and sharing files earlier this week, will be left paying off the $675,000 to the music labels for the rest of his life.
Tenenbaum, a graduate student from Boston admitted to downloading and sharing 30 songs in 2004, faced a fine up to $4.5 million - $150,000 per infringement. After a week long trial the jury eventually decided to award the RIAA $22,500 per song based on “willful infringement” mounting up to a total fine of $675,000 for Tenenbaum.
From the start it was clear that the only thing that the jury had to decide on would be the the size of the fine. The fair use defense was thrown out a few hours before the trial started, which shut down the only escape route left.
Tenenbaum’s defense team, headed by Harvard Professor Charles Nesson and his law students, were left powerless. “Undoubtedly, we were a creative and nontraditional legal team. But going into trial, we were stripped of all our attempts to mitigate Joel’s liability, so today’s outcome has been in the cards all week,” student Debbie Rosenbaum wrote.
This is the second win in little over a month for the RIAA. In June, Jammie Thomas-Rasset lost her retrial against the RIAA and was ordered to pay $1.92 million for the 24 songs she shared via Kazaa.
RIAA spokesman Jonathan Lamy told TorrentFreak that the ‘damages’ will not go to any of the artists, but to more anti-piracy campaigns. “Any funds recouped are re-invested into our ongoing education and anti-piracy programs,” he said.
In total, the RIAA has spent over a million dollars on this case alone, to set an example to the millions of people who share files every day. Time will tell whether or not the verdict will have any impact at all, aside from ruining a student’s life and alienating a few million music fans.

The Origins of the Word Ghetto
This is a documentary investigating the meaning of the word 'Ghetto', from its origins in Italy to the many connotations it has today.
This is just a 10 minute snippet of the documentary, which looks to very interesting and enlighten to members of all races, it looks like it may be offensive to some; but it is important for us as educated people to experience all views.
Make sure to watch this and give feedback. We plan on having a discussion on the term ghetto and how American society (and the African American people) has warped the connotation of the term, "Ghetto"
